Journalist, BBC West Digital
This is an exciting opportunity to join the West Digital team which covers Bristol, Bath, Gloucestershire and Somerset for the BBC News website.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about the West and wants their work read and watched nationally on the BBC website and app.
We are based at BBC Bristol’s headquarters and work closely with BBC Points West, Inside Out West, BBC local radio and the regional Politics Show.
It’s a really vibrant place to work, with the world renowned BBC Natural History Unit and some of the BBC’s best known programmes including Country File, Antiques Roadshow and Any Questions also based on the site.
This role involves using your skills to write sharp, accurate text and also to have a keen awareness of still images, video and audio for use on one of the world’s most heavily used news websites.
We’ll be looking for somebody who is bursting with ideas and contacts and has a keen eye to develop original stories.
You’ll have experience of writing and looking for the best images to go with your story. You’ll have the ability to shoot video and edit in Final Cut Pro. And you will have a keen understanding and love of social media.
Are you the right candidate?
You will have significant experience in daily news journalism, proven writing ability, good IT skills and a clear vision of how to translate stories into lively multimedia material. The ability to integrate into a new team and draw effectively on the BBC’s wide range of resources is essential to this post.
You must be able to think up creative treatments for stories and present ideas for original journalism. Additionally, we are looking for individuals who have a good understanding of our audiences to ensure we accurately reflect all underrepresented communities within the region.
You will have track record of dealing with complicated stories, be able to handle lengthy court cases and have a proven ability of bring in your own stories and applying multimedia and social media treatments to them. Video editing skills, on a system such as Final Cut Pro, would be desirable.
As part of your application you will be asked to upload a recent example of your original journalism.
