Senior Operations Engineer, BBC Essex
BBC Essex is an ambitious, highly interactive station in a busy news patch. We pride ourselves on breaking exclusive stories and developing stories brought to us by our audience. We want to be the place where “Essex comes to talk” and we interact with our listeners through the radio of course, but also Online and through social media and links with TV.
Being out in the county and part of Essex life is really important to us and we have a number of big ambitious outside broadcasts planned which you will be a key part of planning, rigging and sustaining on air.
We are also at the forefront of digital in Local Radio with new ViloR studios and Dira editing system.
Reporting to the Editor you will work across a range of engineering and operational duties for radio, online and television on a daily basis including maintenance of broadcast and IT equipment. You will have experience of working on busy and complicated Outside Broadcasts for radio. You will introduce and train staff in the effective use of digital broadcast technology. The ability to work unpredictable hours to service the needs of our busy newsgathering operation is essential.
Are you the right candidate?
You’ll be an enthusiastic and experienced Engineer with substantial knowledge and experience of a live broadcast environment. You will have knowledge of BBC Local Radio production systems and be an advocate for new technology.
You will have excellent team working, interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to organise and prioritise your workload under pressure. In addition you’ll have excellent problem solving and analytical skills and know about our audiences.
