Job Introduction
BBC Radio Stoke is an extremely ambitious BBC Local Radio Station.

We serve a potential 600,000 people in Staffordshire and Cheshire. It’s a diverse area. Stoke in Trent is an energetic city with many communities, 6 towns and a large student population. Pottery production remains an important industry as the city evolves and reinvents itself moving from mass-industry to a more artisan scene with greater cultural vibrancy. Other key towns include Leek, Crewe, Nantwich, and Stafford.

We’re looking for a brilliant leader to inspire the News team with great journalism knowledge and a vision that includes digital and BBC Sounds.

They will be a big part of the management team and will be involved in all aspects of running a successful radio station.

Role Responsibility
The Senior Journalist Team Manager (News Editor) is responsible for driving the news content of the station and leading the news team.

We want someone who can interpret the brief of ‘Owning the Local Conversation’ to drive the team to produce people-led journalism that will get us noticed.

You will be responsible for motivating, inspiring and organising a talented team of journalists, reporters, producers and presenters.

You will also be the first referral point on station for many complex editorial and legal issues.

You will work with the Management team to ensure the highest standards are always achieved.

You will lead an approach that is inclusive and collaborative, whilst ensuring we make the most of rapidly changing technology.

You will make deployment decisions based on how the story will work across multiple platforms.

Are you the right candidate?
You’ll be a highly motivated and dynamic leader who has a great news sense in tune with that of our audience both in radio and digital.

You’ll be able to manage your time effectively and bring creative treatments to stories, inspiring confidence in others to manage their own work and responsibilities within the output.
