Senior Journalist – Communities & Partnerships, BBC Radio Somerset
BBC Somerset broadcasts across the county from our brand new studios in Taunton and for the first time in the station’s thirty year history, we’re set to broadcast locally throughout the day every weekday. We pride ourselves on our passion for the county. The station tells the stories that matter to the people of Somerset, on radio and on our digital platforms too.
Initially there will be 2 key parts to this role:
- Working with the Editor to oversee the new Evening Show for BBC Somerset.
- Set up and deliver outreach projects which create significant impact both on air and in the community.
We’re looking for a dynamic and proven leader, with significant previous experience in radio programming and working with community groups. We want you to help establish the new Evening Show, with creative ideas for how these programmes can develop new talent, reach currently underserved communities and grow the BBC Somerset audience.
You will play a key role in finding and developing new voices and talent for the radio station from all walks of life in all corners of the county. You’ll develop partnerships with communities and design and implement a series of projects which tell the stories of audiences we don’t currently cater for, make a difference to our communities and sound great on air!
Are you the right candidate?
You’ll need an extensive knowledge of the communities in Somerset, with lots of ideas about how we can work with organisations and groups to highlight their work and to set up campaigns which will make an impact on air and in the community.
We’re looking for someone with great editorial judgement, who can spot a story and turn it into creative radio and digital content.
You’ll need experience of project management and being able to see an idea through from conception to delivery.
Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to establish new relationships are a must.
We’re also looking for someone with a track record of training and developing new talent.
You’ll have significant journalism and radio programming experience.
To apply, please submit 500 words on an underserved audience in Somerset and what steps you would take to correct that. Applications which do not include this will not be considered.
