Description

WLR FM is looking for a dynamic and driven Sports Content Manager / News Journalist to join our award-winning News and Sports team at the Broadcast Centre in Waterford.
If you’re a journalist who lives and breathes sport, knows how to tell a great story, and can manage the moving parts of a busy sports schedule, this could be your next great gig.
You’ll play a leading role in shaping WLR’s sports output across radio, digital, and social platforms, while also contributing to our daily news coverage when required.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Overseeing and managing all sports output across WLR’s platforms
  • Scheduling match commentators and managing WLR’s sports roster
  • Coordinating coverage of live events, fixtures, and breaking sports stories
  • Gathering information, conducting interviews, editing, and reporting on local stories
  • Preparing and presenting news and sports bulletins on air
  • Producing engaging, multiplatform content for radio, web, and social media
  • Working closely with the News and Sports Editor to maintain WLR’s reputation for top-quality local journalism
What We’re Looking For
  • Minimum 1 year’s experience in radio journalism or another professional journalistic role
  • Keen interest in sports and a deep understanding of sports coverage
  • Proven ability to develop contacts and produce original, compelling stories
  • Strong organisational skills- especially in managing schedules, teams, and live coverage
  • Clear, confident on-air voice and excellent communication skills
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Strong editing and digital media skills
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Creative storytelling ability across multiple platforms
  • Full, clean driver’s licence
Bonus Points For
  • A qualification in journalism or a related field
  • Good local knowledge of Waterford city and county
  • Familiarity with Burli newsroom software (nice to have, not essential)
  • Experience with editing tools such as Adobe Audition
