Description
South East Radio is seeking a Local Democracy Reporter to join our newsroom on a one-year fixed-term contract under the Local Democracy Reporting Scheme, funded by Coimisiún na Meán.
The successful candidate will report on the work and decisions of local authorities across the South East, producing clear, accurate and engaging journalism for broadcast and digital platforms. The role focuses on public interest reporting, ensuring audiences are well informed about issues affecting their communities.
Key responsibilities include:

Reporting on local authority meetings and decision-making

Producing news reports for radio and online

Developing stories that highlight matters of local democratic importance

Working as part of the South East Radio news team to deliver high-quality journalism
The ideal candidate will have:

Strong journalism skills and news judgement

The ability to research and explain complex issues clearly

Experience in broadcast, digital or print journalism (desirable)

An interest in local government and public affairs
This position is funded under the Local Democracy Reporting Scheme administered by Coimisiún na Meán.
