Purpose of the role
The Radio Production Assistant is a key role in supporting the Skills World Live Radio Show, the weekly term-time radio show, connecting the world FE, broadcast by
www.fenews.co.uk.

The show has set a lot of records since it was first broadcast during the pandemic. It has attracted over 75,000 listeners and is the number one education podcast available via most of the popular streaming sites. The podcast has attracted
several imitations as other media outlets have looked to copy the success of the show.

We are looking for an ambitious individual who wants to work with our production team and sponsors to take the show to the next level. Current broadcast experience working on political and current affairs programmes would be really helpful. As would a good knowledge of the education sector.

Skills World Live Productions is the digital services arm and sub brand of the Federation of Awarding Bodies. The post holder will predominantly work on the Skills World Live
Radio Show, but will also be a key position within the digital services team of the Federation of Awarding Bodies.

This position requires an individual that has experience in producing radio shows and/or a high quality podcast series.

Skills World Live Productions is a trailblazer in the FE sector for digital output and we are looking for someone that can bring fresh ideas to the production and given the nature of role, it is essential that you are comfortable to work at pace and to hit the ground running.

This position will require the post-holder to be comfortable and confident in speaking with very senior stakeholders and leaders in the sector, including MPs (and their offices),
College Principals, Chief Executives of awarding organisations and employers.

The Skills World Radio Show is now on series 4; and as well as a weekly studio show, recorded in our Sussex-based studio the radio show is going on tour at colleges around
the UK in 2022. There is no regular requirement to attend the studio, although the post holder will be required to attend the road show episodes. You will also need to meet up in-person with the SWL presenter/ production team from time to time for planning meetings (although the majority of these meetings will take place virtually).

Organisational Position
The post holder will report into the FAB Chief Executive as he is the main presenter of the show.  You will also work closely with the Digital Marketing Officer in the production of the radio shows and the Digital Production Assistant, who edits the programme.

Main tasks and responsibilities
Indicative tasks:
• Review the main FE sector news coverage and suggest speakers and engaging topics for the radio shows.
• Co-ordinate the programme of upcoming weekly episodes, scheduling shows at least two weeks in advance.
• Co-ordinate the programme of road shows at colleges around the UK.
• With approval of the CEO, lead on the production of the weekly show, including preparing the run of show, booking speakers and conducting technical checks.
• Once approved by the CEO, lead on booking guests for the studio shows and
roadshows.
• Liaise with the Digital Marketing Officer with regards to the production of media assets.
• Liaise with the Digital Production Assistant to ensure the shows are edited in time for broadcast and raise any issues with CEO.
• Set up the weekly radio shows on our broadcast platform, Socialive, and liaise with our partners FE News to ensure that they are broadcast across the various channels i.e. FE News, www.skilllsworldlive.com, and our social channels.

Radio Production Skills
Experience of producing a radio show/ podcast
series.  ESSENTIAL

Experience of managing a production schedule of
radio shows/podcast series. ESSENTIAL

Experience of identifying guests for a radio
show/podcast.  ESSENTIAL

Ability to undertake technical checks with guests.  ESSENTIAL

Willingness to learn to use our broadcast platform
(Socialive).  ESSENTIAL

Experience using broadcast platforms such as VMix/Vimeo DESIRABLE

Understanding of streaming on various platforms DESIRABLE

Ability to produce brand assets using Illustrator DESIRABLE

Ability to edit radio shows/podcast series. DESIRABLE

Relevant qualification or experience in radio &
media production. ESSENTIAL

flexibly, as opposed to watching the minutes on the clock go by. This role, however, does require delivery against immovable deadlines, as is standard in the broadcast
production world.
