We currently have vacancies for Assistant Producers (AP)


As a Listen AP you’ll be involved at each stage of a project: working on one or more programmes at a time from initial research and development of an idea through pitching, producing and delivering programmes to clients.


Working with your colleagues and supporting Producers at every stage you’ll continually strive to deliver the highest editorial and production standards and be pre-emptive with practical, creative proposals for content.


The key elements of the job are:


  • Assist the Producer with planning and preparation of programming
  • Research content: either as briefed by the producer or working pro-actively on your own
  • Find and book guests and contributors for your programmes - either following a brief from the Producer or working proactively on your own.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure that all paperwork is up to date and stored correctly and in line with GDPR
  • Contribute to scripting as required
  • Develop new ideas and formats for programmes
  • Attend relevant internal and external meetings
  • Specify, set up and operate technical equipment; both in studio and on location.
  • Contribute to the audio editing process as required
  • Ensure that the Producer has everything they need to progress smooth production in a timely and cost-effective way
  • Assist (and occasionally lead) in the creation social media and digital assets to promote content and build audiences
  • Work with the Producer and Production Coordinator to ensure all relevant Health and Safety processes and protocols are in place and adhered to
  • All of the above will need to be done whilst upholding the values of our clients (as well as Listen’s) at all times – including the BBC, Audible, Spotify etc.
  • Client liaison – you will be the commissioner’s point of contact for practical matters including delivery
  • Development – undertaking research in order that Listen can respond to briefs from multiple sources (often with very fast turnaround)
  • Pitching – contributing to the preparation of full-scale presentations to commissioners/brands/advertising agencies
  • Budgeting and scheduling – assisting the Producer in recording and managing costs of production and updating the production schedule as required


Who are we looking for?  You might not necessarily be someone with AP credits already on your CV…but you are definitely someone with a love of stories, an ability to communicate with a wide range of people, a huge capacity for hard work, a passion for audio content and the ability to get excited about everything that comes across your desk:


  • You have ideas and possess the ability to articulate them effectively
  • You’re ready to apply your skills in an ambitious production company
  • Whilst you will no doubt have a passion for a particular category of audio programming you are able to turn your hand and your creative brain to any brief in any genre that comes your way
  • You consume large amounts of other people’s content (audio, tv, social) and appreciate a wide range of subjects from music, arts, current affairs, pop culture, sport, comedy, film and politics
  • An understanding of what makes great social media content linked to radio and podcast output. Existing experience in creating highly-shareable audio and video social media content a bonus, or if not, an aptitude to learn.


The salary for this role will be competitive and subject to an individual’s experience.
