Pay Range:                      £25k-£30k pro rata (£7.5k-£9k actual)

Role summary:

The Radio Academy is seeking an Audio Producer, to deliver a new regular podcast for the charity, bringing together inspiring stories from across the UK Radio and Industry sector.

The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of the UK radio and audio business, and experience of researching, interviewing, recording, editing and publishing audio content.

They will have a clear understanding of engaging listeners with an authentic tone of voice, of identifying brilliant stories, and developing productive relationships with contributors.  They will have a track record of devising creative content ideas, which they will use to further the Radio Academy’s objectives to promote and celebrate excellence in UK radio and audio.

The role is part-time, contracted at 12hrs per week, with an expectation that hours will be spread flexibly across the whole week.  This is not an entry-level role - we are looking for candidates with professional production experience.

Key outputs and responsibilities:

  • Developing and launching a new Radio Academy podcast, based on a brief from the Managing Director, taking responsibility for on-going end-to-end delivery of the project
  • Sourcing and researching stories that will promote, celebrate and encourage excellence in UK radio and audio, building strong relationships with stakeholders across the sector
  • Conducting and capturing interviews (locally and remotely) with guests and contributors
  • Editing podcast episodes to a high standard using well-exercised craft skills
  • Publishing using standard tools, writing excellent metadata and eye-catching imagery
  • Producing short-form material for promotional purposes, e.g. social media
  • Identifying and building relationships with third-party podcasts, and working with them to syndicate content to relevant audiences
  • Delivering special activity around our regular events and initiatives such as Radio Academy Presents, 30 Under 30, the Radio Academy Festival, and The ARIAS to deliver our key messages to industry stakeholders, and deliver value for our partners
  • Working collaboratively with our event producers and scheme managers to deliver our key messages and promote membership and sales
  • Reporting analytics and delivering steady improvement against key performance indicators

Key knowledge and experience:

  • An in-depth understanding of and significant passion for the UK Radio and Audio sector
  • Experience of producing high quality speech audio content, either for radio or podcast
  • Comfortable being the voice of the podcast, and experience of hosting/presenting
  • Experience of using basic recording equipment for in-person and remote recording
  • Excellent digital audio editing skills, for compelling storytelling
  • Strong written skills for writing good presenter scripts that summarise stories succinctly and with authority. Experience of writing excellent metadata.
  • Ability to self-start, use your intuition, and come up with great ideas that represent the full range of the sector
  • Strong editorial judgment, and an understanding of legal issues in journalism
