Job Introduction

This role is for an ambitious Journalism Coordinator who is hungry to learn, full of ideas, loves working in a fast paced job and sounds great on the radio.

You’ll be on-air as part of our Breakfast Show keeping listeners up to date with the latest travel news. You’ll also be part of the production team, making sure the programme runs smoothly. You’ll be answering calls, editing audio and supporting the presenter and producer.

You’ll also work with other programme teams across the week and weekends.

Role Responsibility

  • Key part of the Radio Gloucestershire Breakfast team
  • Keep listeners up to date with the latest travel news in a chatty, clear and concise style.
  • Part of the on-air sound with the Breakfast Presenter Mark Cummings
  • Come up with brilliant ideas for the programme which really highlight the great things about Gloucestershire
  • Record and edit interviews, with a great ear for what makes a punchy and interesting listen
  • Make everything you produce sounds top class, using beds, sound effects, clips and your own creativity
  • Turn audio around during the live show and get it ready for broadcast quickly and flawlessly
  • Write scripts and briefings for the presenter
  • Put together attention grabbing posts for social media
  • Support with the technical delivery of the programme, driving the desk and using software in the for editing, speaking to callers and getting the best people on air


The Ideal Candidate

The person we’re looking for will have a positive, can-do attitude who can do the following:

  • Able to pick out key information and present it clearly to our listeners with warmth and informality
  • Has a knowledge of Gloucestershire or can show how they would develop this knowledge quickly
  • Understands what sounds great on air and how you use a range of production techniques to tell stories in different ways
  • Able to learn quickly and is hungry to pick up new skills
  • Is confident and persistent in picking up the phone to find the best people to talk to
  • Able to use social media and online research to track down guests for the show
  • Is curious and interested in discovering more about Gloucestershire and what makes the county and the people living here so special
  • Has great organisational and planning skills
  • Understands the target audience for BBC Local Radio and Radio Gloucestershire
