Description

Job Introduction

BBC Radio Humberside is the local radio station broadcasting to three quarters of a million people living in Northern Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire.  We’re an ambitious team and proud to be one of the most listened-to stations in the local BBC Radio network.  Our sports coverage is a huge part of our output with first class coverage of Hull City, Scunthorpe United and Grimsby Town along with our Super League clubs of Hull KR and Hull FC.  We’re looking to expand the sports we cover with even more relevance to audiences living in the Humber region.

Main Responsibilities

This is a rare opportunity to join our sports team.  We are looking for someone who is passionate about sport and is full of ideas about how we can develop our coverage both on radio and on digital platforms.  You will be part of a small team where being a self-starter is just as important as working collaboratively.  The job is hugely varied and can range from interviewing managers and players, producing sports programmes, creating digital content, and reporting/commentating from grounds.

Are you the right candidate?

You will be full of passion and energy with a strong knowledge of a range of sports.  Whilst football and rugby are our priorities we are keen for someone who can turn their hand to other sport reporting as required.  We are looking for an all-rounder who is happy to work flexibly across the radio station. You will need to have excellent editorial judgement in understanding what stories we need to cover for those living in our area.  Broadcasting experience is preferable although full training will be given where appropriate.  Understanding how you can be part of developing our digital and social media presence is a priority in order to serve audiences away from our traditional services.
