Station Manager, Wester Ross, Scotland
An unusual station management position
Wester Ross Radio Ltd is looking for a Station Manager to take up post in early 2021, providing comprehensive management of the UK's two smallest local commercial radio stations, Two Lochs Radio and Lochbroom FM, in Wester Ross, north-west Scotland. These are unusual stations operating in remote areas with no other commercial licencees in their service areas, and largely reliant on voluntary staff.
The position may be ideally suited to an experienced Station Manger looking to 'wind down' a little, moving to a beautiful scenic area and undertake a part-time role in an area with a more relaxed pace of life.
The Station Manager is the only paid employee and is accountable to the management board, but has complete day-to-day responsibility for managing the station and its team of volunteer presenters, and other support volunteers. This vacancy arises with the retirement of our current Station Manager who has been in post for 17 years.
We are looking for a self-reliant and committed 'all-rounder' with the ability to manage small Ofcom-licensed stations in a remote and beautiful part of the UK.
The stations are largely self-reliant, and the ideal candidate would also have significant technical/IT skills relevant to radio station operation and development.
The post is part-time with flexible hours, but also involves an element of out-of-hours support to deal with urgent matters arising. The postholder would be expected to live in, or relocate to, the service area.
Wester Ross Radio Ltd is a not-for-profit community-owned company also registered as a Scottish charity, and is operated for community benefit.
A formal application process will follow, but in the meantime anyone potentially interested is urged to get in touch for more information.
