HMP Wandsworth is the largest prison in England and Wales.
Radio Wanno is the multi-award-winning media literacy project broadcasting to HMP Wandsworth. We have impact on our community from our participants to our listeners. We reduce reoffending. We achieve this in two ways.
First, our accredited training programme in partnership with Novus provides employability skills including literacy, numeracy, IT, communication, confidence, and self-worth.
Second, through the programmes made by our participants which create awareness for the vital interventions, education and workshops that link into the reducing reoffending pathways.
Radio Wanno is a community radio station and a vital communication tool within the establishment.
We’re the 2021 Gold Winners of the Community Radio Awards, were nominated for an ARIA for our content broadcast during the Covid Pandemic and are winners of the Sandford St Martins Awards for our partnership and radio programmes in association with the prison’s chaplaincy.
We’re proud owners of other awards over the last 13 years… including EVCOM / IVCA Clarion, Mind Media, Koestler Arts. In 2014 we were awarded the Radio Academy Nations and Regions award for Station of the Year for London & the Southeast, a Butler Trust Award and an IVCA Clarion Champions Award.
