About the Role
This exciting position will see you report into programmes across the Newstalk schedule, working with some of the biggest names in Irish media from Claire Byrne to Pat Kenny to Anton Savage.
As programme reporter, you will pitch, develop, produce and deliver outstanding reports from across the country that will see you cover everything from protests to days at the beach. You will be tasked with finding unique voices, be they men and women on the street, a parent with an extraordinary story or a voice who needs the courage and space to highlight an injustice. You will be comfortable delivering live reports in studio or from out and about on location, as well as being adept at filing a self-contained package report.
While reporting on air will be the cornerstone of this role, an ability to produce content for our large online audiences is also key.
This rare opportunity will appeal to a creative individual who is a hard worker and loves to make connections.
What You'll Do:
- Develop and plan innovative and creative content ideas that can be executed on air and online
- React quickly to breaking news when required. Quick turnarounds are a part of the normal working day in daily radio.
- Record and edit audio in studio and on location.
- Be proficient in the use of social media to deliver digital video reports which enhance our brand reach and increase the digital audience and engagement levels.
- Adapt to change that benefits the company, be open to new ideas, take on new responsibilities, handle pressure and adjust plans to meet changing needs.
- Communicate well both verbally and in writing, promptly share information and ideas with others throughout the organisation as appropriate and demonstrate active listening skills.
- Possess the ability to plan, manage and execute several report ideas at any one time and deliver to tight schedules.
- Create compelling video content for digital and social media channels.
If you meet the following criteria, you might be the right person for the job:
- At least 3 years’ experience working in an on-air capacity in broadcast media.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of a range of topics from politics and current affairs to societal issues and entertainment and the issues that matter to the country.
- Ability to work well with others and thrive in a group working environment. Be open to feedback.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, multi-tasking skills, and a keen attention to detail.
- An ability to self-shoot, edit and publish digital video reports.
- A multi-tasker with strong planning and organisational skills.
- A self-starter who is full of ideas, works well under pressure and can work to deadlines.
- Strong understanding of libel and defamation laws.
Desirable:
- Irish language proficiency
- A full driver’s licence
- An immediate start is preferred for this position.
