Beat 102-103’s award winning news team provides top quality news and sports to its target audience of 15-34 year olds on air & online. The station is market leading across the five counties of the South East and has an online audience of over 850,000 followers.
In this role, you will report to the Programme Director. You will take the lead on news content for broadcast on air and online including regularly breaking news stories. Your priority will be finding news from the South East that matters most to this key target demographic, getting the relevant information on air and online in as succinct a way as possible, within tight deadlines.
You will set the news agenda through key contacts and lead a team of full and part time news and sports staff to develop engaging content relevant to 15–34-year-olds in the South East. In terms of administration & HR, you will support the Programme Director in recruitment of staff for the department. You will also manage rotas & annual leave.
Beat is seeking a creative candidate who has demonstrated leadership, will possess excellent editorial judgement, a knowledge of media law, strong research skills and good knowledge of digital media.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience at senior journalist level and previous radio experience would be desirable.
The successful candidate will play a central role in developing a fresh direction for Beat’s news & sports output as the station looks forward to a new phase of broadcast licencing in 2023.
A proven track record in generating content, strong organisational, networking, digital and people management skills are required for this senior editorial position.
