Description
Do you want to be the producer of our award-winning Free Flow show on National Prison Radio?
A rare opportunity has arisen to join our prison radio project at HMP Brixton, the beating heart of National Prison Radio. This job is maternity cover.
You’ll spend part of your time running Free Flow, ‘the show where we play the beat twice so you can get your bars right’!
It’s all about helping our listeners in prison to hone their creative skills. Presenter Lady Unchained is a poet and mentor who first got the bug for writing while she was serving a prison sentence.
For the rest of your week, you’ll be working alongside men serving prison sentences, as part of a small, high-performing staff team – making life-changing programmes for broadcast into prison cells across the country on National Prison Radio.
We’re the charity that developed and runs National Prison Radio, the world’s first national radio station for people in prison.
Earlier this year we picked up a Gold Award at the radio industry’s prestigious ARIAS. In recent years we’ve been crowned Independent Production Company of the Year (Audio Production Awards) and Charity of the Year (Third Sector Awards). We’ve also been nominated for a string of British Podcast Awards.
We run the groundbreaking podcast for people who have left prison, called Life After Prison, as well as the smash hit Secret Life of Prisons podcast.
Ours is an organisation unlike any other, and we’re particularly interested in hearing from people who have the required skills and have lived experience of the criminal justice system.
We’re looking for an experienced and technically proficient audio professional with a proven track record in producing and editing high-quality radio. Administrative skills, empathy, flexibility and editing skills are all essential for this role. Please set out clearly in your application how you meet these requirements.
Occasional travel to other prisons across the country may be required.
We’re a driven, tight-knit team working in what can be a challenging, exhilarating world, and you will be motivated by the knowledge that your work has the potential to make a real difference.
