The Role
We’re seeking someone to lead the daytime newsroom team which provides news bulletins for our national, regional, and local radio brands across the Bauer Media Audio network in Ireland.
As Newsroom Afternoon Editor you will also oversee and be responsible for all output sent to client stations as part of the network news service.
You will ensure that high editorial standards are maintained across our own brands and the network news service, and that bulletins/output meet the changing needs of the audience.
This role is based in our offices in Marconi House, Dublin 2.
Reporting to the Group Director of News, you will:
- Have overall editorial responsibility for the daytime output to Network Stations, ensuring all stories are written and prepared in accordance with the principles of good journalistic practice.
- Make sure there is a continuous supply of news to client stations while ensuring editorial standards are met.
- Work in collaboration with our reporters, correspondents and desk-based news team and be responsible for writing and preparing stories on the breaking news of the day.
- Be an experienced broadcast journalist, with excellent people management skills, capable of producing and reading bulletins to the highest possible standard.
- Help to identify new talent and actively develop them in line with the needs of the business
- Help to train new staff to a professional standard (encompassing technical competence) prior to going on air.
- Contribute to the preparation and management of the news diary
- Assist in the selection of new newsroom personnel.
- Share the preparation of staff rosters with other members of the Senior News Leadership Team

- Efficient and organised with an ability to multitask
- Team player and an excellent communicator
- Ability to write clear concise news copy under the pressure of tight deadlines
- A nose for a story with the ability to identify the strongest newsline
- Thorough working knowledge of how the news cycle works
- A good working knowledge of Burli

- 3 years + of experience in news editing, reporting, and writing.
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to lead and influence others
- High energy and motivation to meet demanding daily deadlines
- A third level qualification in media or journalism
