Description

Job Description: Mid-Level Comedy Producer (Radio & Podcasts)

We are looking for a sharp, high-energy Comedy Producer with at least 5 years of industry experience to join our production team. You are the bridge between raw comedic talent and a polished, audience-first final product. You pitch and shape ideas, manage big personalities, solve problems and create the laugh-out-loud moments our listeners can’t wait to share with their mates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Content Development & Formatting: Expertly format segment ideas and episode arcs to ensure maximum comedic impact and listener retention. We’ll need you to revamp content, pitch new ideas and steer your slate of shows to their maximum potential. You will be very much in charge of your content.
  • Talent Management: We make shows that entertain audiences, not talent. We need our talent to feel supported and nurtured. We need you to act as a "talent whisperer," managing difficult personalities with diplomacy to extract their best performances.
  • Rapid Turnaround: We are a lean and nimble team. Everything we do is based on the effective and quick turn-around of high-quality content. As such, a keen eye to detail and a clear methodical approach to production are essential.
  • Audience Advocacy: You need a clear understanding of what works for the audience.  We’re creating something very different at FUBAR, yet the content must always remain accessible, entertaining and funny.
  • End-to-End Production: We’re entrusting you to get to work. We’re going to get out of your way, and in return we need you to be relentlessly self-driven, endlessly motivated and obsessed with bettering the standard of our comedy content. You’ll be expected to independently take on all aspects of the production cycle from initial brainstorming to final delivery.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum of 5 years proven industry experience, producing professional comedy radio or podcasts.
  • Both highly creative and solutions-based mindset; your mind is whirring with new ideas and understand how to separate the good from the bad. In production, you identify hurdles early and fix them autonomously.
  • Strong creative intuition regarding "what is funny" and how to pace a show. You know what works and why. You can accurately predict and design the audience reaction, delivering killer punchlines and moments that create trends.
  • Self-driven and perpetually motivated to make the best comedy and entertainment content. You can identify the moments that work for social clips, the news lines that journalists can’t resist, the quotes that people want to talk about with their mates. You’re always ready to learn new tools and techniques.
  • A collaborative spirit who fits seamlessly into a tight-knit creative team. You’ll work closely with the social media, promotions and marketing teams to scale the comedy audience to its full potential.

Technical & Soft Skills

  • Editorial Judgment: Deep understanding of comedy structures (satire, improv, sketch) and UK media law/compliance. We need comedy output close to the wire, not over it.
  • Efficiency: Proven ability to manage tight deadlines without sacrificing the "vibe" or quality of the edit. We need you to work across multiple projects to tight deadlines.
  • Dependable and Approachable: The ability to remain grounded while navigating the high-pressure environment of live or "as-live" recordings. When things get tough, we need you to smile and keep going.
  • Software: Audition (or Protools or similar). Experience with podcast hosting software and/or radio scheduling software. Zetta. The usual MS Office package. An understanding of good recording techniques, fixing audio issues and video processes desirable.
