About The Role
Newstalk is seeking to appoint a Deputy Managing Editor to join its leadership team.
This role will be critical to the onward development of the station as it consolidates its position as the talk station of choice and leading audio provider for 25 – 54 year olds in Ireland.
As Deputy Managing Editor you will be responsible for the day to day management and implementation of Newstalk’s content strategy on air and online.
You will lead, inspire and manage creative teams, to produce content that delivers on the needs of our target audience and is unique and exclusive to Newstalk. You will set the daily editorial agenda of the station and edit output to a high professional standard, in line with the editorial guidelines and brand values of the station.
You will work with the Managing Editor to devise and drive editorial strategy across platforms with a view to growing audience. You will be a senior member of the station management team and will contribute to the onward development of the brand across all areas of the business.
What You'll do:
- Content lead providing editorial oversight and management of Newstalk output on a day to day basis
- Set editorial agenda at daily morning and afternoon editorial meetings
- Lead and manage multi-disciplinary content teams to devise and implement effective strategies for audience growth on both FM and digital platforms.
- Work with the Managing Editor to develop Newstalk’s digital audio portfolio consolidating our position as a leading audio provider in Ireland
- Project management of significant editorial initiatives and events across the schedule e.g. Elections
- Lead regular producer meetings, developing and nurturing the creative team so that they can deliver maximum impact
- Talent management and development – coaching, recruiting, training future Newstalk creative teams on air and off air
- Collaborate with the sponsorships and promotions team to maximise commercial opportunity for the station.
- Be an ambassador for the station internally and externally always putting the brand first
- Compliance – providing editorial direction to content teams on compliance matters as they arise e.g. legal, taste and decency, dealing with listener complaints
- Onward evolution of the station sound in line with the brand framework
- Participation in and contribution to senior management meetings.
- Deputise for the Managing Editor as required.
If the following traits sound like you, you might be the right person for the job:
- At least 5 years’ experience working in a senior editorial role in the field of news and current affairs, preferably broadcast.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Ability to work well with others and thrive in a group working environment.
- Excellent communication skills, an ability to multi-task and a keen attention to detail.
