Description
We’re looking for a Senior Reporter to join our award-winning news team in Edinburgh.
In this role, you’ll be first on the scene for breaking stories, delivering vivid, engaging reports while capturing high-quality audio and video. You’ll need a calm, composed approach under pressure, a strong and authoritative voice for radio, and sharp visual storytelling and editing skills to produce compelling video content.
As a key voice in our newsroom, you’ll develop strong relationships with local decision-makers and audiences to ensure our journalism is original, relevant, and rooted in the community. You’ll also be a positive ambassador for the station, contributing to a supportive team culture. Flexibility is essential, as news doesn’t keep office hours, and you may be called upon to read bulletins or mentor junior team members when needed.
Our Team:
You will work closely with the news team across Scotland and link into our news network across the UK, covering the Forth 1 and Greatest Hits Radio patch in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife.
You will be joining a passionate, hard-working team who really care about keeping our listeners up to date. You must have a genuine interest in local, national and international news, current affairs and sport to fit this role. News never stops and is a huge part of Bauer’s daily output, keeping our radio stations connected to the communities we broadcast to.
This is a full-time permanent position where you will work from our office in Forth 1, Edinburgh.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Focusing on producing compelling local stories for bulletins.
- Reporting and producing on location of major news stories.
- Producing pictures and video as well as audio for our websites.
- Filling in on any bulletin reading or reporting shifts, if required.
- Updating local news content on our websites and on social media, ensuring this is compliant within the law.
- Being the first on the scene of breaking stories, delivering colourful, descriptive reports, gathering high-quality, engaging audio and being able to respond calmly and effectively under pressure.
- Delivering radio reports with authority and you will also have the ear, eye and editing skills to create outstanding video reports too.
- News happens at any time of day or night, seven days a week so flexibility is expected in order to react to major stories outside of normal working hours.
What You’ll Bring:
- Recognised Broadcast Journalist Qualification with at least two years’ experience in journalism.
- Strong understanding of media law and the Ofcom Broadcast Code.
- Solid grasp of current affairs and general sports news.
- Proficient in using social media platforms and creating multimedia content (video/audio) for online use.
- Full UK Driving Licence with confidence in driving Bauer pool cars.
- Familiarity with the broadcast area and established local contacts.
- Knowledge or experience with Bauer’s newsgathering software and technology.
- Demonstrates initiative, adaptability, and strong editorial judgment in a fast-paced environment.
If you’re passionate about telling great stories, thrive on the buzz of breaking news, and want to be part of a team that genuinely cares about its patch - we’d love to hear from you.
