Job Description
Fancy producing two of the biggest shows on BBC Radio Wales?
Bengo Media is looking for an experienced producer to take the helm of Money for Nothing and Solid Gold Sunday, the hugely popular weekend shows presented by legendary Welsh broadcaster, Owen Money. You’ll be responsible for keeping these much-loved shows sounding their best—working closely with Owen, crafting running orders, and delivering interactive live radio.
You’ll be based at BBC Cymru Wales in Cardiff. You’ll lead a small live production team from the studio on Saturdays and Sundays. Prep work can be done on location or remotely. This is a part-time role (3 days a week) on a fixed-term contract until 31st March 2026.
As the producer, you'll be at the heart of these shows, ensuring that every broadcast is engaging, seamless, and truly resonates with the loyal Radio Wales audience. Your job will involve everything from planning and shaping the content, attending relevant Radio Wales meetings, leading the production team and delivering the live productions plus the annual outside broadcast at the Porthcawl Elvis Festival. You’ll need to be confident handling listener interaction, selecting and sequencing music, and maintaining the right tone for both programmes.
You’ll be responsible for making sure Owen has everything he needs to shine on air—whether that’s providing background information on music requests, securing contributors, or ensuring the running order flows effortlessly. You’ll also have a keen eye on how the shows can continually improve. The role requires a combination of editorial judgment, technical skills, and quick thinking to handle any live broadcast challenges.
As part of the Bengo Media production family, you’ll have the support of a team that values creativity, collaboration, and high-quality output. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced producer who loves live radio, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is excited to work on two of Wales’ most beloved shows.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Creating running orders that reflect the show’s tone and audience expectations.
- Producing live in the studio, and on location for outside broadcasts as required, ensuring smooth, engaging, and high-quality broadcasts.
- Working closely with Owen Money, collaborating on content and helping him deliver his best on-air performance.
- Ensure other team members are fully briefed and have what they need to help make the shows a success
- Managing listener interaction, curating requests, dedications, and audience engagement.
- Being part of the wider Bengo Media production team, contributing ideas, and upholding our production values.
What You’ll Bring
- A passion for live radio and an understanding of what makes great listener-driven and music-led shows.
- Experience in live production in presenter-operated studios with the ability to think fast and adapt in real-time
- Experience of planning and working on live outside broadcasts
- A strong editorial sense, ensuring content is engaging, compliant, and audience-focused
- Excellent communication skills; able to build great working relationships with presenters, the wider production team and contributors.
- A love for music—especially the sounds of the 60s, 70s, and 80s!
- Confidence in studio operations.
- A track record of working with a range of talent
