VACANCY: Midlands 103 Sports Journalist

Role Overview

Midlands103 is seeking a full-time multimedia sports journalist and presenter to join the team in Tullamore. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated journalist with a passion for sports and storytelling. You will work across multiple platforms to deliver high-quality, engaging content in a fast-paced environment, covering sports stories at the local, national and international levels.

Key Responsibilities

Gather information, conduct interviews, and produce, edit, andreport live sports stories.
Prepare and present news and sports bulletins for radio and digital platforms.
Write compelling news and sports content for both on-airbroadcasts and online audiences.
Present a weekly sports programme that captures the energy and excitement of local and national sports.
Maintain a deep understanding of sports and news both locally and beyond, ensuring comprehensive and informed reporting.
Participate in live studio broadcasts and contribute to the overall success of the station’s sports coverage.
Carry out additional duties as required.

Skills & Experience

A strong interest in sports, coupled with the initiative to discover and cover fresh local sports stories.
Proven ability to develop contacts, create original stories and work independently when required.
Proficient in digital production tools and editing software(e.g., Adobe Audition, Burli, Capcut, etc).
Excellent news writing, storytelling, and on-air presentation skills.
A sense of balance and fairness in exploring multiple viewpoints.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

A qualification in Journalism, Radio/Television or a related field is advantageous.
A passion for all sports, with in-depth knowledge of GAA,Soccer, and Rugby.
Ability to thrive under pressure, collaborate effectively within a team, meet daily deadlines, and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
Strong organisational skills and strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
