Broadcast Engineer - An exciting new opportunity to help make radio and television at NewsUK working as part of the Broadcast Technology team.

The Team:

You’ll be joining a supportive and collaborative team of broadcast engineers, working together to share knowledge, develop skills and help make brilliant TV and radio broadcasts. The team are responsible for the complex studio and broadcast transmission chain systems and ensure continuous, high quality, uninterrupted transmissions.

Your Role:

As a Broadcast Engineer, reporting to the Head of Broadcast Technology and guided by the Lead Broadcast Engineer, you will be responsible for the support, maintenance, development and technical capabilities of all News UK broadcast systems and networks, both at our London studios and on location at outside broadcasts. You will work a shift pattern which includes early, late and weekend working, taking part in an on-call rota to respond to urgent technical issues outside standard hours.

Day to day:

  • Provide customer-focussed support for broadcast technology users.
  • Design, specify and implement new systems to support changing broadcast requirements.
  • Maintain and solve problems with hardware and software in studios and racks rooms.
  • Work with outside companies and internal departments to promptly resolve faults.
  • Plan, research and provide risk assessment for outside broadcasts and special events.
  • Provide engineering support for Outside Broadcasts.
  • Configure equipment to meet operational needs.
  • Grow and develop your skills.

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Secure knowledge and experience of broadcast media technologies
  • Understanding of IP-based broadcast infrastructure (AES67, Livewire, Dante, SMPTE 2110, NMOS, Zixi, SRT, RTP)
  • Experience supporting broadcast playout and scheduling systems (FastServe, K2, RCS Zetta, GSelector)
  • Experience supporting Newsroom computer systems (iNews, NewsBoss, Burli)
  • Experience using and supporting broadcast communication systems (ISDN, Comrex, Tieline, LiveU, Phonebox, Riedel)
  • Experience using and supporting broadcast routing and control systems (Miranda Nvision, Cerebrum, Pathfinder)
  • A positive attitude with exceptional client-facing interpersonal skills for written, oral and face-to-face communications
  • A passion for developing your skills, knowledge and capabilities and those of our team
  • A passion for delivering exceptional customer service
  • Good numerical and written skills
