Position Overview 

The Head of Digital Audio – Broadcast is a management role dedicated to driving the digital audio strategy for Bauer Media Audio Ireland’s broadcast radio business. This role focuses on developing and managing digital audio products, such as podcasts, and on-demand content, while integrating cutting-edge technologies to enhance listener experiences and business performance. e.g. AI initiatives. The successful candidate will combine expertise in digital product development with a strong understanding of the broadcast radio industry, the digital audio market, and consumer needs, ensuring the seamless evolution of audio offerings in a digital-first landscape.

 

Key Responsibilities 

Digital Audio Product Management 

  • Working with the Editorial Leadership, define and implement the strategy for digital audio products, including the development of new and evolution of current digital audio products within the broadcast brands.
  • Collaborate with programming, product, and marketing teams to deliver innovative audio solutions tailored to target audiences leveraging current and future content libraries.
  • Leverage emerging technologies, such as AI-powered content production assistance and transcription to improve content production and distribution.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of digital audio products using key metrics, ensuring continuous improvement and growth.

 

Industry Expertise and Audience Engagement 

  • Stay ahead of trends in the digital audio and broadcast radio industries, including listener habits, platform innovations, and regulatory developments.
  • Develop strategies to attract and retain audiences across multiple digital platforms while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Partner with content teams to curate and produce compelling digital audio content that resonates with diverse audiences.
  • Ensure digital audio products meet the needs of advertisers, listeners, and other key stakeholders.

Data Integration 

  • Track listener behaviour and deliver actionable insights for content and advertising strategies.
  • Drive the adoption of data-driven decision-making to inform content production, platform enhancements, and audience acquisition efforts.

Revenue Growth and Monetisation 

  • Identify and execute new revenue streams, such as subscription models, digital advertising, and sponsorships.
  • Partner with sales teams to create and implement innovative ad formats and sponsorship opportunities tailored to digital audio platforms.

Team Leadership and Collaboration 

  • Lead and mentor cross-functional teams to deliver the strategy and drive evolution and impact.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and innovation within the team.
  • Communicate the digital audio strategy effectively to senior leadership, ensuring alignment with overall business goals.
  • Build and nurture meaningful partnerships with external content creators to expand the capabilities of the digital audio ecosystem.

Key Skills and Qualifications 

Educational Background 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Media, Communications, Digital Technology, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or MBA is a strong advantage.

 

Experience 

  • 7+ years of experience in digital audio, digital product management, or the broadcast media industry, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven success in launching and scaling digital audio products and platforms.
  • Deep understanding of the broadcast radio landscape and its transition to digital formats.
  • Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in digital audio technologies, end-to-end content creation and distribution platforms.
  • Familiarity with audience research, data and analytics tools.
  • Understanding of the digital audio market and associated commercial models.

  • Strong management and project management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical mindset with a focus on problem-solving and delivering results.

  • Growth in digital audio listeners and engagement metrics.
  • Revenue generated from digital audio platforms, including advertising and subscriptions.
  • Listener retention rates and time spent on digital products.
  • Successful delivery of digital product launches on time and within budget.
  • Team satisfaction and productivity metrics.

Work Environment 

  • Location: Hybrid with expected travel to studios and company offices.
  • Reports to: Digital Director
  • Team: Collaborates with programming, sales, digital, and marketing teams.
