Role Responsibility

We’re looking for an extraordinary journalist and team manager to lead our storytelling team.  You’ll report to the Executive Editor in the Channel Islands and work closely with the Executive Producer, Assistant Editor, Reporters, Presenters and Producers.

The News Editor coordinates stories, resources and effort to deliver the best content from the Bailiwick of Guernsey in the most efficient way. You’ll feed into our multiplatform commissioning, ensuring that the planning and execution of stories takes place as expected so that teams produce the right content, at the right time and for the right platform all day, every day.

You will have significant influence across all teams and output areas, leading the editorial discussions, overseeing deployments and bringing together the newsroom’s efforts. You’ll also play an important role in the strategic direction of the newsroom and our planning around major events and projects. As an ambassador and leader of cultural change, you’ll set the standard when it comes to promoting and actively embracing an inclusive, collaborative and collegiate culture in the news team, as well as with colleagues across the BBC.

Are you the right candidate?

• You’ll be a natural team leader, taking people with you as you support the leadership team in making changes and improvements to the way we work
• First rate editorial judgement and the ability to manage competing demands under pressure.
• Awareness of digital news cycles and content needs.
• Demonstrable understanding of Guernsey’s political and cultural landscape.
• Track record of considerable success in a pressurised, editorial role, ideally with familiarity with more than one platform.
• Enthusiasm and track record in innovation, able to identify and pursue new, and imaginative news storytelling opportunities.

You are eligible to apply for an internal role if you are either on a BBC Continuing (Permanent) contract, a BBC Fixed Term contract, a casual contract or freelance contract and you have worked continuously for 6 months.

Only internal staff are eligible to apply for the role on an attachment basis. You need to be on a continuing (permanent) or fixed-term contract.  You need to have worked for the BBC for more than one year and will also need permission from your line manager.  You can find out more on our attachments page.
